Description
Crock Pot Mississippi Chicken delivers bold, tangy, buttery flavor with just five ingredients โ chicken breasts, ranch mix, au jus gravy mix, butter, and pepperoncini peppers cook low and slow into fork-tender meat bathed in a rich, savory broth that tastes like it took all day to make.
Ingredients
3 to 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 medium yellow onion, diced
1 packet (1 oz) au jus gravy mix
1 packet (1 oz) ranch dressing seasoning mix
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, sliced into pats
8 to 10 whole pepperoncini peppers
3/4 cup juice from the pepperoncini jar
Instructions
1. Spray the inside of a 6-quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray or line with a slow cooker liner.
2. Scatter the diced onion across the bottom of the slow cooker.
3. Place the chicken breasts on top of the onions in a single layer. Sprinkle both the au jus gravy mix packet and the ranch seasoning packet evenly over all the chicken.
4. Arrange the whole pepperoncini peppers across the seasoned chicken. Lay the butter pats randomly over everything. Pour the pepperoncini jar juice over all the ingredients.
5. Place the lid on the slow cooker. Cook on HIGH for 4 to 5 hours or on LOW for 6 to 7 hours. Do not lift the lid during cooking.
6. Check the internal temperature of the thickest chicken piece โ it should read 165ยฐF. Shred directly in the slow cooker using two forks while the chicken is still hot, then stir into the pan juices. Serve immediately.
Notes
Always spray or line the slow cooker before you start โ the seasoning packets caramelize onto unprotected ceramic during the long cook and require intense scrubbing to remove.
Shred while the chicken is as hot as you can comfortably handle โ hot chicken shreds effortlessly; cooled chicken fights every fork stroke.
Use the pan juices as a natural gravy โ ladle them directly over mashed potatoes or rice for instant, deeply flavored sauce with zero extra work.
If the finished broth tastes too salty, stir in 1/4 cup of water or unsalted chicken broth to dilute without losing flavor depth.
Do not skip the pepperoncini juice โ it provides the signature tang and acidity that defines this dish. Plain water or broth cannot replicate it.
