Ingredients

Scale

1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

6 slices ham

6 slices cheese (cheddar or Swiss)

1 egg, beaten

Salt to taste

Pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

2. Roll out puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to even thickness.

3. Cut pastry into rectangles about 3 by 4 inches.

4. Place ham and cheese on half of the rectangles.

5. Season lightly with salt and pepper.

6. Top with remaining pastry rectangles to form stacks.

7. Press edges gently to seal.

8. Brush tops with beaten egg.

9. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

10. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until golden and puffed.

11. Serve warm.

Notes

Keep puff pastry cold for best texture.

Do not overfill to prevent leaking.

Use different cheeses or meats for variation.

Add sautéed vegetables for extra flavor.

Freeze unbaked stacks and bake directly when needed.

Reheat leftovers in the oven to keep them crisp.
