Description
This refreshing mint margarita combines cool, fresh mint with tangy lime and smooth tequila for the ultimate warm-weather cocktail that comes together in just 5 minutes.
Ingredients
3 ounces silver tequila (blanco)
2 ounces fresh lime juice
2 ounces simple syrup
1 ounce water
5 to 6 fresh mint leaves
Crushed ice
Coarse salt for rimming (optional)
Lime wedges and mint sprigs for garnish
Instructions
1. Run a lime wedge around the rim of your margarita glass. Dip the rim in coarse salt if desired, coating it evenly. Fill the glass with crushed ice and set aside while you make the cocktail.
2. Place the mint leaves in your cocktail shaker. Gently muddle them by pressing and twisting with a muddler for about 10 seconds. You want to release the oils without shredding the leaves, which can make the drink bitter.
3. Add the tequila, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, and water to the shaker with the muddled mint. Fill the shaker with ice, seal it tightly, and shake vigorously for 15 to 20 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels frosty cold.
4. Strain the margarita into your prepared glass filled with crushed ice. The strainer will catch the mint leaves while letting all that minty, limey goodness flow through.
5. Garnish with a fresh sprig of mint and a lime wheel on the rim. Serve immediately while it stays ice cold and refreshing.
Notes
Slap the mint leaves between your palms before muddling to release extra oils.
Use nugget or crushed ice for the best texture and faster chilling.
Make mint simple syrup by steeping mint in your simple syrup for deeper flavor.
Roll limes on the counter before juicing to get more juice out.
Chill your glasses in the freezer for extra-frosty margaritas.
